Simon Grayson this week has strengthened his squad with the loan signing of George McCartney, the northern Irish left back played a major part in the Whites 12 game unbeaten run before losing away to Cardiff in early January. McCartney has joined from Premier League outfit Sunderland for the remainder of the season and this strong addition will only help United's chances of a return to the top flight.
McCartney has made 17 appearances for Leeds in a loan deal that was extended to keep the defender at Elland Road for several months. His first appearance for Leeds was a 1-0 victory over Sheffield Utd in late September. Leeds entertain Scunthorpe at Elland Road on Saturday, despite a strong performance by Ben Parker against Arsenal, McCartney will definitely be in the squad for the Yorkshire derby, but who will get the nod by Manager Grayson?
Grayson is clearly making a statement to reinforce a so far unpredictable United back line this term. The left back position this season has been weak at times, but now its looking a strong point for United with George McCartney returning to Elland Road. Ben Parker is also looking in good form after eventually getting back to full fitness after a lengthy injury lay off, and finally with summer signing Fede Bessone on the road to recovery, the strength and depth of the United squad is shining through.
Lastly, the Honduran international Ramon Nunez's contract has been extended until the end of the season after only making 2 sub appearances for the club, he is currently away on international duty.
